Young Person Mentoring
Growing up can be challenging, and young people can experience pressures from many different areas of their lives. They may struggle with self-esteem, confidence, friendships, family relationships, school or education, anxiety, loneliness, identity, or uncertainty about their future. Difficult or adverse childhood experiences can also affect how a young person sees themselves, manages emotions, builds relationships and responds to challenges.
Sometimes, young people may find it difficult to talk openly about what they are experiencing, particularly when they feel misunderstood, judged or unsure of where to turn.
Having a trusted mentor can provide a young person with a safe and supportive relationship where they feel heard, respected and valued. A mentor can offer encouragement, help a young person recognise their strengths, and support them in developing greater confidence and self-worth.
Mentoring can also help young people explore their interests, identify their goals, find a sense of purpose and meaning, and develop practical strategies for managing difficult emotions, anxiety and everyday challenges. Rather than telling a young person what to do, a good mentor walks alongside them, helping them discover their own strengths, make informed choices and feel more confident about their future.
Sometimes, having just one consistent person who listens without judgement can make a significant difference.
Counselling
As an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and a King’s Trust–accredited practitioner, I am dedicated to supporting clients as they navigate life’s challenges and work towards more fulfilling and meaningful lives.
People may seek counselling for many different reasons. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, difficult relationships, loss, life changes, past experiences, emotional overwhelm, or simply feel stuck and unsure of how to move forward. Sometimes, there may not be one clear reason, but a feeling that things have become difficult to manage alone or a desire to better understand themselves and their experiences.
My therapeutic approach is flexible and person-centred, recognising that everyone’s experiences and needs are unique. I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where clients can explore what they are going through, develop greater self-understanding, build self-worth and confidence, and find ways to cope with difficult emotions and challenges. Together, we can explore what may be holding you back, discover your strengths, and work towards positive and lasting change.
Expertise
I am committed to ongoing professional development and to continually expanding my understanding of different therapeutic approaches. My practice focuses on supporting people who have experienced adverse childhood experiences and are looking to understand how these experiences may continue to affect their lives. I support clients in developing self-worth and confidence, exploring their sense of purpose and meaning, and working towards healing from past experiences.
I also help clients develop practical coping strategies to manage anxiety, fears and phobias, regulate difficult emotions, and feel more in control of their thoughts and responses. Alongside my counselling experience, I have trained and worked within crisis services, developing knowledge and experience in risk assessment, safety planning and responding appropriately when someone is experiencing significant emotional distress. I understand the importance of recognising when additional support may be needed and, where appropriate, can support clients with referrals or signposting to other mental health services.
My aim is to provide a supportive, non-judgemental space where clients can gain greater self-understanding, build resilience, develop effective coping strategies and move towards meaningful and positive change.
